Using Color Grouping For Classroom Organization - Bright Ideas January

Hello Everyone!
Welcome to another Bright Ideas Link Up!

Today I'm sharing super-simple color coding idea to help you manage students and their supplies.

In our room, we pool together our glue sticks, scissors, crayons and pencils. We also name each table a particular color for organization.

In the past, if scissors or glue dropped on the ground and rolled away, it would be put back in any basket and I'd end up with too many or too little on each table.

So, we decided to color code the supplies as well! All yellow scissors at the yellow table, for example.

You could also put colored tags or stickers on each item. It also allows you to call on that table to pick up their things, because you know where it came from!

So now when scissors or glue falls on the ground, everyone knows exactly where it goes and we never get mixed up!
To keep it all tidy, I always dismiss by table; I announce "I'm going to choose the table that is clean on top, clean underneath, and has a neat supplies basket." The class stays very clean and organized!

  2. That is so funny Susanna! It sounds like we teach in the same room! Apparently lost items happen at every grade. (We've certainly got a solution for those with lost scissors...)
If your kids moved into sixth grade in my room, I bet they would know exactly what to do. How fun to be linking "with" you!
